What Wedge Do I need?
Wedges are a very important part of your golf set, as 70% of shots are inside the 120 yards ‘Scoring Zone’. There are a few things to consider when buying wedges, and we hope to give you a good understanding of what wedge combination will be good for your game.
- Pitching Wedge (44-47 degrees)
- Gap Wedge (48-52 degrees)
- Sand Wedge (54-56 degrees)
- Lob Wedge (58-64 degrees)
Most Iron sets include a matching Pitching Wedge. The advantage of the Gap/Sand/Lob specialist Wedges is that they are much more versatile for different styles of shots. This is because of the design, with little cavity on the head and sharper leading edges.
“Most Professional Golfers carry a Pitching Wedge and at least 2 other Wedges”
The loft of a wedge is simply the angle at which it hits the ball off the ground. As mentioned earlier, lofts of wedges range from 47 degrees to 64 degrees. Most professional or amateur golfers carry three or four wedge, to offer variation and selection to their short games. The more loft on a wedge produces more elevation on your shot, resulting in a higher ball flight with less distance.
